being cool

So have rooted your android device successfully? I hoped so… cool

Now lets get started with the next part what can you actually do other than the apps for rooted device. Here I am gonna tell you about what other cool stuffs you can do with your device now, if you haven’t rooted your device yet, please click here and come back again.

If I speak about myself, the best thing I like is installing Custom ROM’s. I was using Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 p3100 model with android v4.1.2. My reason to root my device was to install android v4.4.2 in it. That’s what a custom Rom is basically used for. So I rooted my device and installed 4.4.2 kitkat in it. It was incredible!

Then I wanted to make my 4.4.2 kitkat different from other kitkat devices so I used themes compatible with my current ROM. Themes and icon packs made my Tab 2 worth purchasing. Not only I made my device faster but also smooth and no lags. The key to do this is to follow every instruction I write and follow it otherwise you’ll end up with a bricked device and then blame me for it.

Lets get started with installing Custom ROM on your device:

  1. Get all the info about your device, like model number, android version, RAM, etc. You can check this by going to settings>about device.
  2. There would be many ROM’s available for your device, some of them would be official, unofficial, experimental, unstable, stable. I recommend going with stable/official first or if you are brave enough like me go with unofficial. Don’t go with the experimental because it contains a lot of bugs that only professionals can handle.
  3. I would personally recommend CyanogenMod as the best ROM available at present but you can also check out other developer’s ROM for your device as well. Ask me if you are uncertain about anything.
  4. Get the zip file of your desired ROM and gapps file associated with it. Gapps file is basically google apps. Get that zip file too.
  5. Copy them to your ext sd card in your device and not in your internal memory.
  6. Backup everything including your current ROM. Use ROM manager and titanium backup for it.
  7. Download and install latest version of clockwork recovery mode in your device.(To do this, copy the zip file of it in your ext sd card and boot into recovery mode and choose install zip from sdcard. Find the zip file of clockwork mode and install it. then go back and click reboot now. Use volume keys to move up and down and power key to select.)
  8. Make sure your device is charged, at least 80%
  9. Make sure you are connected to internet. (optional)
  10. Now once you are ready to do this go ahead (wishing you luck)
  11. Get your device into recovery mode (switch off your device and hold power+vol up key when you switch on your device, this will get you into recovery mode. If this not works ask me)
  12. Click on wipe data/factory reset and select YES, go back after that. Then click on wipe cache partition and click YES, go back. Then click on advanced>wipe dalvik cache>YES.
  13. Now once all these are done, click on install zip>choose zip from /storage/sdcard1>choose your desired ROM you copied here>install>YES> then go back to the menu.
  14. Then go to the same folder and install the gapps zip file, then go back.
  15. Now once all these are done reboot your device by clicking reboot system now from main menu.
  16. It will take some time to reboot because it is the first time. Once rebooted follow the on screen instruction and enjoy your new and awesome ROM.
